Gist lauches new driver training and recruitment centre

Supply chain expert Gist is now offering industry-leading training from its new driver training centre.

The training facility in Spalding, Lincolnshire, features a real static vehicle for training new drivers and a driver drop-in centre, where three driver trainers are based to support those re-training to become Class 1 HGV drivers.

Julian Bailey, Managing Director Temperature Controlled Logistics, Gist, said: “This dedicated training centre is the first for Gist and will help us recruit, train and re-train our drivers. We particularly want to attract younger drivers to help build a talent pool to support the future of this industry. We know that 47% of our drivers are aged over 46 and only two per cent are under 25. With this training programme we’re confident we can attract new drivers each year and provide ongoing training to make sure Gist drivers are the best in the business.”

Julian added: “The centre also gives us the opportunity to tailor the training and development to our drivers’ individual needs and by having dedicated driver trainers, it gives a more personal touch to the whole programme.”

The accredited workshops are being offered to drivers at other Gist sites across the country.
