Recruitment process
How we recruit
We take recruitement very serious at Gist. We want to be sure we have the right people in the right roles at the right time.
Although the process may be slightly different for different roles, this summary will give you an idea of what you can expect when you apply to work with us.
Non-management vacancies
For non-management role, applications need to be made
directly to the site HR teams (see the contacts page for a full
list of our operational sites).
typically, CVs are reviewed against the role criteria
and then short-listed candidates will be invited for a face-to-face
interview.
Graduate and industrial placement
recruitment
All graduates and undergraduates will need to apply
online and complete, in full, all of the required
information.
We screen the questions asked very carefully, so we
would recommend you set aside at least an hour to complete your
application.
Once we have received the application, we review and
discuss your answers and if we deem them to be appropriate and
display enough of our key competencies, you will be invited to
attend a telephone interview.
The telephone interview is an opportunity for us to
find out more about you, what you have done previously in both a
working and personal sense, and the achievements you are most proud
of.
Those candidates who show the passion, drive and
determination that is needed will then be invited to visit one of
our depots for an interview and site tour. The candidates that
progress through this stage are then invited back to an assessment
centre day.
In the case of industrial placements, those who are
successful on their tepehone interview will be invited straight to
an assessment centre.
Management recruitment
All candidates wishing to apply for a management role
within Gist must apply via our website. It is important that you
attach an up-to-date CV that outlines the roles and
responsibiliites you have held previously so that we can assess
suitability against our criteria.
If a candidate appears to have the required skills
and knowledge, they may be asked to take part in a short telephone
interview. This gives the candidate the opportunity to learn
more about the responsibilities of the role itself.
If a candidate is successful at a telephone interview
or it's not required, they will be asked to attend an interview
process.
This interview could be a face-to-face meeting with
the hiring manager or it may be an interview as part of a larger
assessment centre.
How we feedback to our candidates…
As competition for our roles is always fierce, we
will inevitably have candidates who are not successful. We
communicate back in the following ways....
- from submitting your CV - communicated via
email

- after a face-to-face interview / assessment centre / depot day
- communicated via email with information on how to speak to
someone to obtain more detailed feedback if required
- Graduate and industrial placement - communicated via email with
information on how to speak to someone to obtain more detailed
feedback if required
- managerial recruitment - communicated over the phone on the
preferred contact number required and then email to confirm in
writing.
