Gist initially worked with Budgens to review their supply chain processes with the aim of delivering reduced overall costs and to develop a long-term strategy to improve operating efficiency. This work enabled a reduction in the number of operating sites from two to one by managing the flow of products through the supply chain and reengineering the delivery schedule.
Gist manages the Budgen’s purpose-built NDC and national transport fleet. The NDC is designed for a wide mixture of product groups from high value spirits and cigarettes to ambient, chill, frozen, and fresh produce.
The warehouse adopts a mixture of pick by line and pick by store formats across the product groups. The operation has a team of people to manage the special offer and seasonal product requirements to ensure the smooth throughput of non standard items.
