Gist, one of the UK’s leading logistics providers, has extended its primary distribution network with a major, multi-million pound business win for its Spalding depot in Lincolnshire.
The win, which doubles the size of the business managed from this site, means an additional 4,000 pallets per week will be distributed nationally. It involves moving chilled food products from 20 manufacturers in the region to Gist’s Spalding depot for onward distribution, or to one of the six depots Gist manages around the country for M&S Foods.
Paul Littmoden, Gist’s Primary Account Director, says: “We are delighted to extend our
partnerships with customers in this area. This new chilled food business plays to our strengths and uses the primary distribution expertise we have built up through our work for companies like M&S, Budgens and Waitrose product home delivery service Ocado”.
Geest, a major player in the chilled foods market, accounts for 65% of this new business, with Gist handling around 100,000 trays per week for the manufacturer.
Terry Moore, Geest’s General Manager for Logistics, says: “We were impressed with Gist’s experience and credentials in the food market. Spalding forms an important focus for our chilled products business and we look forward to working with Gist to make this an even bigger success story”. This business win has led to the transfer of around 90 employees to Gist, and will also involve Gist investing in an additional 25 specialist vehicles to undertake the work.
