Leading logistics provider Gist is set to strengthen its presence in the brewing sector with the news that it has expanded its contract with well known brewer Carlsberg-Tetley. Under the new contract, worth £100 million over five years, Gist will carry out the transport element of Carlsberg-Tetley’s primary distribution business as well as retaining its existing warehousing operation.
In simple terms, Gist will deliver product from Carlsberg-Tetley’s breweries in Leeds and Northampton to its retail depot network ready for onward delivery to the brewer’s on-trade customers. Additionally, Gist will deliver to Carlsberg-Tetley’s major retailers such as supermarkets.
Martin Gwynn, Gist’s Managing Director, comments: “We are particularly pleased to have won this new contract with Carlsberg-Tetley as it further builds on the relationship we have with one of our key customers. It also represents a substantial addition to our company-wide transport operations which gives our plans for growth a significant boost.
“This contract is also of great strategic importance to us as it provides us with a strong platform from which to extend further into the rapidly changing, and exciting, brewing sector.”
Carlsberg-Tetley’s Colin Povey says: “Over the last seven years that we have worked with Gist, the company has shown an understanding of the needs of our distribution network and is good at tailoring its operation to meet the changing requirements of our supply chain. We look forward to continuing our partnership with Gist.”
The new contract will come into force on 2nd February 2003.
