Gist, one of the UK’s leading logistics providers and part of The BOC Group, supports the government’s announcement today (16 October 2002) of £145 million spending at pinch points on major roads. As a supply chain management specialist, Gist has hundreds of lorries on the roads at any one time in the UK, transporting products and goods for blue chip companies such as Marks & Spencer and Budgens.
With each customer, Gist works in partnership to develop a service level agreement that includes strict delivery deadline criteria. Therefore, any effort the government makes to ease congestion at the busiest points will have a positive knock-on effect on its business.
Many of Gist’s customers are within the grocery sector so prompt delivery to individual stores, often several times a day, is even more critical.
Martin Gwynn, managing director Gist said: “We work closely with our industry associations and wholeheartedly support the planned improvements. With our roads becoming busier every day, congestion and the related problems it brings, such as driver stress and fatigue, means this announcement should be welcomed by the public and the logistics industry alike.”
