Gist gears up down under
Gist has widened its reach further around the world with the news that it is to operate a new national distribution centre for sister company BOC Industrial and Special Products (I&SP) in Australia.
The 65,000 sq.ft Sydney-based warehouse will be used to service I&SP’s 68 Australian ‘Gas and Gear’ stores with welding and safety products.
Gist is working closely with I&SP in Sydney to deliver immediate cost and service benefits through this new distribution centre, as well as offering them a strategic platform from which to leverage their retail offers within the region.
Michael Chambers, Gist’s supply chain general manager in Australia, comments: “We have provided I&SP with supply chain expertise that will help deliver real bottom line benefits to their company. This, combined with the excellent working relationships that we have established with the I&SP management team, is what secured the contract for Gist.”
Ross Huggett, director of operations Industrial and Special Products, BOC South Pacific, said: "We have been working with Gist in I&SP South Pacific for some time. We see that Gist can provide us with expertise that we don't have in supply chain management. The national distribution centre is hopefully the start of Gist’s further involvement in the I&SP supply chain in the South Pacific."
The distribution centre is due to open 28 October 2002.
