Gist and Cavaghan & Gray strengthen relationship

October 2008

Gist has signed a new three year warehousing and distribution contract with Cavaghan & Gray, a Carlisle based manufacturer of ready meals.

This latest deal cemented a long standing relationship between the two businesses, stretching back to the 1980s. What started out as an ad hoc transport arrangement soon became a formal transport contract, with Cavaghan & Gray drivers transferring to Gist on a number of occasions starting nearly 20 years ago. With Cavaghan & Gray outsourcing the core transport elements of their business to leading supply chain specialist Gist, this relationship was strengthened further.

The new deal saw 31 employees transfer from Cavaghan & Gray to Gist to undertake the warehousing element of the agreement.

A new development in the contract is a right for Gist to use Cavaghan & Gray’s deep freeze facility on the premises, which has further enhanced Gist’s offering to the food industry. This 5000 pallet space offers new capacity to meet the ever increasing demand in this region of the UK.

Paul Littmoden, account director, Gist, said: “We were thrilled to extend our relationship with Cavaghan and Gray. We feel this represents their faith in Gist as an ongoing service provider and reflects our expert knowledge, both in the logistics arena and as a quality supplier who wants to build long term relationships with its customers.”

On completion of the contract, Mark Murray, general manager of Cavaghan & Gray said: “We are pleased to be able to continue to develop our relationship with Gist, who have been operating on our site for many years now. It is not only the excellence of their service that helps our business relationship but also the knowledge that they care for their staff so we feel happy that our transferring employees will be well looked after.”
